Improving Training and Prioritizing Community Relationships

Trust between law enforcement and the public is critical for public safety. Communities rely on police and prosecutors to protect them from crime and injustice. Law enforcement, in turn, relies on community support and cooperation to ensure safety. Improving the training and well-being of police, prosecutors, and corrections staff, and prioritizing community relationships, are essential for building cultures of accountability and trust within agencies and with communities.

That’s why we support:

  • Training in de-escalation techniques, crisis intervention skills, and cultural competency to equip law enforcement with the tools needed to navigate complex situations with sensitivity and care
  • Promoting a culture of community in which law enforcement develops public safety solutions in collaboration with local communities and values a “guardian” over “warrior” role
  • Enhancing accountability and data transparency to address misconduct and build public trust in the justice system
  • Supporting the physical and mental well-being of law enforcement to reduce stress, prevent burnout, and ensure they can perform their duties effectively
  • Ensuring sufficient resources and training to improve clearance rates especially for homicides and violent crimes
  • Promoting prosecutorial accountability and equity in decision-making, fostering a culture that values seeking justice over winning convictions or lengthy sentences
