A workshop at MacArthur Foundation’s Safety and Justice Challenge Network Meeting in Houston, Texas discussed addressing misdemeanor enforcement and racial disparities in research and practice and highlighting lessons learned in different jurisdictions. Brennan will present findings from its MacArthur-funded study examining enforcement and disparities trends, as well as promising solutions to address underlying root causes like poverty and health. Key reformers, including those from the Brennan Center’s Law Enforcement Leaders (LEL) will discuss reforms to reduce incarceration and build public safety, including diversion, crisis response, and community engagement.
