Book Talk: “Mass Supervision: Probation, Parole, and the Illusion of Safety and Freedom”

Former New York City Probation Commissioner and LEL member Vincent Schiraldi discussed his recent book, in which he provocatively calls for shrinking or even abolishing probation and parole. The conversation also featured Jeremy Travis, a national expert on evidence-based approaches to mass incarceration, and was moderated by Ruby Nidiry. The discussion, which was kicked off by LEL Executive Ron Serpas, was enriched by valuable insights from the audience, including LEL members, senior staff from New York-based DA’s and the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, and other leaders in the fields of corrections, probation, and parole.
